href="http://www.behance.net">www.behance.net</a></a>, merchandising partners like <a href="http://www.artflakes.com/"><a href="http://www.artflakes.com">www.artflakes.com</a></a> or the new <a href="http://www.everyart.com/"><a href="http://www.everyart.com">www.everyart.com</a></a> (which seems to broker commissioned work), lots of new players are popping up.  By and large they’re trying to commercialize artists previously confined to small, niche communities — which is super exciting.  Christopher Uminga is a very cool graphic artist I’ve tripped across that has a visual style all his own.  His work falls somewhere between Manga and Tim Burton (of the ‘Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy’ variety), and while his original monsters are cool, I really appreciate how he revamps popular cartoons and comics.  I love the pieces where he re-imagines comic book heroes and villains as warped goth kids, with dead expressions and faraway eyes.  And he has a great feel for watercolors, which tempers the cuteness with atmosphere.  I hope to see his own line of vinyl toys at Kid Robot, but if the licensing stands in his way, I’ll just have to go to the end of his commission list at <a
